I am a parent of 2 MCPS students, one in middle school, one in elementary. I have a long history as a community activist and 10 years of experience working with special needs populations and public school systems. I also have 30 years of experience in various analytical, communication, and policy roles.

I am impressed by and grateful for the dedicated and informed community of MCPS. I am in full agreement with the vision articulated by the BOE “to do whatever it takes” to ensure the success of every child, to challenge every child, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language proficiency, or ability. My candidacy for BOE was motivated by a desire to help navigate that path. I bring a practical experience as well as a philosophical framework that can serve the community well in this effort. I also find this to be a particularly exciting time to become personally involved, with both a new superintendent and the dynamic political debates around education reform currently taking place at all levels. We also have decades of experience with special populations and plentiful resources on evidence-based methods from which we may learn and benefit.

I have experience with special needs populations, legislative review, data analysis, team formation, and diverse educational modalities. I am interested in and willing to listen to the informed perspectives of our diverse community. I am willing to serve and work to achieve incisive understanding of the issues. I will hold all decisions and actions to the standard of how well they serve student learning based on the best evidence available.
